Irish Naturalized Citizen Living in UK

Post by pahadia » Thu Jun 21, 2018 4:44 pm

Hi,
I am an Irish naturalized citizen Living in UK for over 5 years. Brixit in sight what are my best options to get British Passport

a) Apply for PR now , wait for an year & apply for British citizenship
b) Wait until govt new policy on EU citizens living in UK comes into effect & then apply for passport in future
c) or any other route which British govt have for Irish citizens (which I am not aware of)

Thanks & Regards

I expect you are aware of the Common Travel Area (CTA) which has existed in some shape or form since the Irish Republic came into being. Brexit does not effect this arrangement. Free movement in the two countries for their citizens. So no need for a British passport as such - others can advise you on the requirements if you still need or want a British passport.

Thanks a lot for reply. I am aware of CTA & believe UK govt will let EU/Irish citizens continue to reside in UK in some shape or form. However I am thinking to get British document to avoid any future unseen issue.

CTA has never been part of any EU arrangements, and not subject of the negotiations.
