Returning to UK with Certificate of Naturalisation

Hi!

I have a canadian passport and my british citizenship was granted in Sept this year. I returned my BRP but had to travel abroad due to an emergency and didnt get a chance to apply for a british passport. I now need to return to the UK - can I return with my certificate of naturalisation? I didnt have the opportunity to apply for my british passport from abroad. I'm assuming I'll still be allowed to enter the country on my canadian passport!

If they verify that you are British, then you should be okay.

In theory you cannot use the certificate of naturalisation (but I can't think why this is the case), here's a quote from the AN Guide:-

If you need to travel to and from the UK after being granted British citizenship you must apply for a British passport or a certificate of entitlement to the right of abode, to be placed in your foreign passport.

This would be a problem if you did not have a valid alternative passport or BRP.

And if you enter UK with your Canadian passport you will presumably (technically) be treated as a tourist and get six months with a stamp saying no work or recourse to public funds or some such, so I hope that common sense prevails and UKVI will not have a problem with this...
