Right of Abode Certificate Eligibility & Dual Citizenship

Post by Hioru » Tue Jan 08, 2019 1:44 am

Hi,
I know that if a person is a British Citizen and hasn't received a British Passport though does possess a non-British passport, they can get a Right of Abode vignette into it (everyone calls it certificate of entitlement but I guess it is not incorrect to call it vignette? 🙆‍♂️).

Now, I'm curious, does this only apply to the case when they never had a British Passport issued at all or say if they possess an expired British passport they can get the certificate of entitlement as well?
Is it possible to cancel a valid British passport in order to be eligible to get the certificate of entitlement?

Thanks!

P.S. Also, it seems that people with Indian nationality for some reason lose their Indian citizenship once they aquire a British passport but not when they get the British naturalisation certificate that grants them their British citizenship? Would people say that's just a case with Indian law or most countries that prohibit dual citizenship only actually deprive you of citizenship once you get your first passport? 🤔
