Hello,
I am also confused about this. It is so difficult to find any information on whether they actually give you your passport and BRP back to you at the appointment. This website says this, which has me worried:
"In most cases, you will have your supporting evidence (including your passport) returned to you immediately once the appointment is finished. You may not be able to use your passport for travel until you have received a decision on your application."
Here is the link so the goverment site that explains all the changes happening to the application process.

It seems like there is no guarantee that you can use your passport while awaiting a decision. Does anyone have a definitive answer about this, please? If it turns out I can't travel, can I get a refund by cancelling my application?
I would like to submit my application for naturalisation (British citizenship) tomorrow(I already have ILR), but I need to travel abroad at the end of May and then again at the end of July! I travel for work and so can't stay for a solid six months.
Thanks for your help.
