First UK Passport Application - by descent

Post by MsScarlett » Tue Oct 01, 2019 10:48 pm

Hi Members,

I’m looking for clarification on process and eligibility for a friend who is making her first adult UK passport application and qualifies by decent because
- her father is British, born and raised in the UK to British parents.
- her mother, a US citizen and British father were married (in the UK) when she was born
She was born in the USA and has always lived in the USA.

Does she go ahead and apply for a British passport supplying her father’s long form birth certificate, her parents marriage certificate, her long form US birth certificate; and send her ‘actual’ US passport (or will a copy of every page do?) to the UK passport office?

Will she be required to present for an interview and if so, will that interview have to be at the UK Passport office; or would it take place at a British Embassy within the USA?

If she qualifies and makes the online application today, how long is the whole process taking right now?

Thanks in advance.

She has to send all the documents original including passport.

Interviews are rare these days.

If applying form the us, it can take anywhere between 6 weeks and 16 weeks. Sometimes less, sometimes more.
