Referee for citizenship

Post by ashontherun » Mon Nov 27, 2023 4:36 pm

Hi,

I have a DR-10 in June 2018 and now holds UK passport.

This DR-10 is not recorded on my DBS.

Can I act as a referee for my colleague as its been over 5 years since DR-10 happened. I was banned for 15 months with £250 fine but no imprisonment.

I have provided my details to my colleague and they have submitted the application. When I was signing the referee I noticed one sentence "referee must not have been convicted of imprisonable offence during the last 10 years (unless that conviction can be disregarded in line with the table showing in guide

If I cannot act as referee, can my colleague change the referee though he has submitted the Application?

Please advise.

Thanks

Kindly advise

"referee must not have been convicted of imprisonable offence during the last 10 years"
So there's no problem - you have not been imprisoned for the offence?

So per the caseworker guidance you should be ok:

"The referee must not:
• be related to the applicant or the other referee
• be the applicant’s representative
• be employed by the Home Office
• have been convicted of an imprisonable offence in the last 10 years for which
the sentence is not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974"

That's a relief to hear.

I was getting anxious about it and have negative thoughts.

Thanks for your help.

Why are you worried. Worst case, the HO would have asked your friend to produce another referee. It couldn't have affected you in anyway.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
