british passport or ROA ? advice needed please

Post by joe.narayan » Sun Jul 17, 2011 6:22 pm

Hi Friends,

First, thanks to all the people who take time to share their experience and help others. I have a situation and i think some one can help me on this. I have got my citizenship (certificate only from council) but, i have not applied for british passport. I am still on my indian passport, is it worth taking british passport or can i go for ROA (Right of Abode) ? what are the advantges and disadvantages of both. Would be great if any one can share their knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Joe

Youre now a British Citizen period. You may not apply for a British passport, thats your decision.

No, you have automatically renounced your Indian citizenship and passport, which you must surrender to the nearest Indian HC, as its no longer yours. Thus you have no RAO in India.

You should have thought this through before taking the oath of a British Citizen.

Don't see any advantage to have ROA - it costs twice than a British passport and only valid as long as the non-UK passport is.

And I agree with Gidoc, you lost your Indian citizenship so your Indian passport is not valid any more.
