Wrong surname in Naturalization Cert but need PP urgently

Hello friends,

As mentioned above my sons certificate of naturalization has part of his surname as his middle name.
Eg. If his surname is X Y and first name is Z..Ideally it should be typed as * X Y * Z however the certificate has the name as *X* Z Y
This is wrong and needs to be amended.
I called the HO to ask the timeline for amending and returning certificate and they informed me it could take up to 8 weeks. The only problem is that I will need to travel to India for my brothers wedding in second week of July. Everything would have been simple if not for the error.

Is there any other option to make this process quicker or should I go ahead and apply for my sons passport and explain to IPS the situation in a letter? Please give me some suggestions.
Thanks

What is your son's age?
What was his nationality before becoming a British citizen?

He is a 6 month old baby. Me and my husband both have ILR and hence applied for his naturalization to get him registered as British.

when did you and your husband obtain ILR, was it before or after your son was born?

Minors do not naturalise, but apply for registration and are issued a registration certificate (not naturalisation certificate).

I am assuming that the child doesn't hold any foreign passport. If he does, name the country.

My son was born in november 2011 and we got our ILR in December 2011. Sorry its not naturalization but we applied for his registration in Februry 2012 and just received the certificate (with the wrong name) by post today.

Yes he does not have any other passport.

You'll need to get the error corrected if you wish the passport to be issued in a name format different from what is mentioned in the registration certificate.

The earlier you start the process, the better.

Do you think I can speed the process up with a letter of support from our local MP??

Or should I risk it and apply for the passport and include a letter to IPS explaining the error.

AFAIK, IPS will not issue a passport in any name format other than the one reflected in the registration certificate ... unless the application is supported by a formal document certifying name change (e.g. - deed poll).

Not sure how an MP can help.

Well I sent back my son's certificate of naturalization to UKBA the very next day and also requested our local MP to write a letter of support as we needed to travel within 4 weeks. The amended certificate was received today (12 working days).

Fantastic!
Congratulations....BTW if you don't mind, what area is your Local MP from?
I am quite impressed as the case was somewhat tricky.

I too am impressed. Last year my wife received her naturalisation certificate with incorrect maiden surname (how did they manage this after five years of jumping through immigration hoops !!). She sent it back immediately after the ceremony (you are told to attend, have it signed and then send it for correction) and we waited and waited and waited. Calls to HO just got fobbed off. Finally we got fed up and requested the address for an official complaint. Letter duly fired off and surprise surprise within days we got (a) acknowledgement of receipt of cert (b) apology for their tardiness and (c) the corrected certificate, all of which more or less arrived by same post. If you were cynical you would think that correcting their mistakes is non revenue generating. It actually took longer to correct the certificate than it did to get the certificate in the first instant
