I am eligible to apply for British passport now. But I am not sure if I continue to be here in this country for long.

Is it advisable to take British Passport and then OCI, Or to continue on ILR and keeping coming once every 2 years.

I am trying to understand which is more beneficial and flexible.

Also, if I take up british passport and then after 2 years of staying away from the UK, I decide to give it up, will I get my ILR status back automatically or will I loose all rights?

Appreciate if someone can help

I suggest you read ILR + Indian citizenship or British Citrizenship.

* if you don't apply for BC. Just visiting every two years is not enough to keep the ILR. You need to reside in the UK within the two years not just visit.

* if you renounce your BC, you don't go back to ILR.

Thanks - that was really helpful.

But when you say - * if you renounce your BC, you don't go back to ILR"... What will be my status if I renounce my BC, let's after 2 years?

AFAIK, and I stand to be corrected,

1. If you apply for renunciation of British citizenship after obtaining OCI, then, from British law's perspective, you'll, after renunciation, be an Indian citizen with no UK immigration status (7.5).
2. If you apply for renunciation of British citizenship without having obtained OCI, then your renunciation application will be refused .. because without OCI, you'll be considered stateless (Renunciation).
