Is it possible to legally buy the British passport?

Dear All,
Sorry if it is a silly question but I heard that it is possible to legally buy a British passport and become a British citizen? Is that true or just a myth?
I heard that it is quite rare but possible...Is this really true?

Whatever is the source, they are trying to SCAM you into this.

No, you cannot "legally" buy a British passport. Only British citizens can apply for British passport and are required to pay the associated fees.
British citizenship is not a privilege that is available for a payment either.
