Passport runs out soon and another question

Hi just a quick query, I'm about to do my wifes form for Naturalisatin, however I just noticed her Pakistani Passport that has her ILR on it, runs out on the 12th of July.
Now if I have the form filled out and sent say by the end of the week will that be allright?

There is no requirement that the applicant must hold an (unexpired) valid passport.

Now sorry for being and idiot and you can all scold me for it later....
But I've just realised our marriage certificate is back home in Pakistan and now we need this as evidence of marriage, got everything else including the life in uk pass, both our passports etc.
Why do I need it now when it was seen for the spouse visa back in 2007 when we applied in Pakistan, and yet it was not asked for when we did her ILR as my partner, but now they want to see it again.
Any chance anyone not send it in and it got passed or will have to get the in-laws to dig it out and send it over?
