Referee for naturalisation application

Hi,
Hi have gone through the list of professions. Have couple of queries please:
1. I have a friend with Indian passport and he is working as the Insurance Underwriter in a recognized company. The list shows Assurance or Insurance agent but not underwriter. Can this guy become my referee?
2. I have another friend who works as a IT manager. The list says "Manager of a VAT registered Company". Does he need to provide the VAT registration on the form?
Appreciate if somebody could provide some insight on this please.

My take is:
1. No. reason: an insurance agent is likely to be a business/company owner why the person working as an underwriter is an employee.
2. No. an IT Manager working under company can only be a referee if he/she has membership of BCS (british computer society). A manager of
a VAT registered company means someone that owns a registered limited
liability company and registred for VAT.

Hi Olawest, thanks for that, its much clearer now. I have another friend who works as a contractor and is a director of a VAT registered limited company. From the explanation provided by you, I hope he qualifies as a referee.
Please could you confirm.

YES.
A contractor who is director of a VAT registered limited company can act as a referee for naturalization purposes.
