Hi

I need information regarding my Child citizenship.

I am British Citizen by naturalization , I took British Natationality in November 2011 and my wife is an Indian Nationality and she is on ILR (Indefinite leave to remain ) visa. My wife is pregnent now and I have sent my wife to India to give birth to my child. We are expecting new our new born in October 2012. This means my kid will born in India.

My question is, can i apply for UK citizenship for my kid if he is born in Inida. Or do i need to apply any visa from India and bring my kid here and apply the citezenship.

Please guide me to bring my new born to UK.

Thanks
Regards
Kunal

Hmm... I would probably have phrased that sentence differently.

As you are a naturalised British, your child (even if born abroad) is British from birth. There is no need to apply for citizenship. The child is also Indian. As India doesn't allow dual nationality, once your child exercise a right as a British citizen (for example by applying for a passport), he loses the Indian citizenship. After applying for a British passport in India, there is a process of applying for an exit visa but I'm not familiar with the details.

Alternatively, the child can have an Indian passport with a confirmation of his right of abode. This should be applied from the BHC.
