AN Form Question Please Help

Not sure what to do regarding this.

Partner came to UK over 20 years ago using false ID and name.
Acquired ILR 3 years ago on long stay concession. Gave UKBA all information at time of ILR application including how first came into UK and details including name used.

Now applying for Naturalization as spouse of BC.

However, there's question on AN Form - Has applicant been known by any other name, give details.....

Don't know if partner must again declare the false ID/name used when first came in or to leave blank. Worried to leave blank as UKBA may see that as with holding information. Also worried that by mentioning another name it may lead to further inquiries and delay decision.

What should we do?

Delay is better than deception.

Wasn't thinking along lines of deception at all. Like stated, UKBA was provided with the information at time of ILR application via affidavit.

Just not sure if "known by different name" means someone has had a legal name change and was previously known by another name,

or in our case different name as in "entered country using false name"

When he entered UK using false name, from then on he was "known by that name" until the day he decided to switch to using his "real" identity.

The question doesn't ask if "you were know by any other name .. that you then had changed through a legal procedure".

An explanation of facts in a covering note should help avoid delay in processing (hopefully).

IMHO...

So your opinion is to state the name spouse originally entered UK with on the AN Form, and attach a covering note (or copy of affidavit provided with ILR application) to explain why different name is entered?

Perhaps an explanation of facts in a covering note will help.

Under 1.8, yes.
Under 1.5-1.7, his "real name" - same as the one he used to apply for ILR.

If I were the applicant, I would replace the "or" with an "and".
