Dear friends,

I am trying to get the references to complete my naturalisation application.

Can you please advise that CIOB (Charted Institute of Building) member can give reference under the first reference category because my friend is a CIOB member.

Your advise will be much appreciated.

I do not think that membership in a chartered body is sufficient. As far as I know, the reference itself must hold chartered status. In this case: MCIOB alone might not be enough, but MCIOB with CEnv will do nicely. However, in order to become MCIOB, one must demonstrate a certain amount of professional experience - so I would explore that route instead. Where does your friend work and what does he/she do?

My friend is working with me for a Highways contract as a quantity surveyor. But I checked in google that CIOB is listed in the professional qualifications category but not sure that's why I put my question.

I am sure that is plenty. A professional surveyor with MCIOB should get the job done very nicely. Even if HO disagree (very unlikely), they will simply ask for a third reference - no risk. So go ahead with the application and good luck.
