AN application and PSNI Clearance for living in NI

Hello all,

I have submitted my application for Naturalisation. However, I was not aware from anywhere I have read on the UKBA website before I applied - that I needed to have a PSNI check done, living or having lived in Northern Ireland. Would it be an idea to include this in the FAQ, and possibly speed up the process for others? And include a link for the DAT1 form from the PSNI site...just a thought

It is mentioned here in several places and it is part of the caseworker's guidance ( page 53 here ) :

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... iew=Binary

I didn't have to do it for ILR ( others have ) and sent a copy of my information along with my application. However, I doubt if the caseworker will be allowed to accept my very recent ( Oct 8th ) PSNI certificate.

A real pain in the a** - especially since I only spent 1 year in NI.

The good news is that UKBA seems to grant approval right about the time they receive the PSNI certificate ( seems they finalize all the other checks first ).

Cheers, guess I got fed up trying to find it on the website - didnt think of checking the grounds for refusal section...I also didnt have to complete it for my ILR

I got all my docs back, and sent the DAT1 form off today...so hopefully it wont take long to get to approval

btw, the DAT1 application states they must respond to the request in under 40 days.

The actual turnaround they provide is two weeks - they responded to my DAT1 request on the 13th day.

Outside of the two weeks, the second class mail is an issue here also. If the certificate I provided is deemed to be invalid, I plan on sending my next request special deliver and include a pre-paid special delivery envelope to forward to UKBA.

Just received my naturalization approval today.

As mentioned previously, I sent my PSNI report along with my application.

I fully expected to be told a report supplied by me was not good enough since the caseworkers guidelines mentioned the report should be sent straight to them.

Somehow, they have accepted this.

My PSNI report was dated 24 days before the application was received by UKBA. They accepted it in my case.
