i have received ILR under 10 yrs long residency on 20th april 2012. i know i have to wait for 1 year before i can apply for naturalization. can i apply for that 28 days before when my 1 year term will come to an end? any advice would be helpful.,

rumee007, I have split your post into a separate topic, because your circumstances are very different from the member who started the topic where you posted.

You got ILR on 20.04.12. There is no 28 days leeway for Citizenship applications. So the earliest you can apply is 20.04.13, but as that is a Saturday, effectively your earliest date in Monday 22.04.13.

But whenever you apply, you need to ensure that you were physically in the UK exactly 5 years before UKBA will receive the Naturalisation application. For example, let us assume you do indeed intend to apply in the week starting 22.04.13, but you were actually outside the UK from 01.04.2008 to 30.04.2008, well you would need to defer making your application.

John - in this instance the earliest application date means the date application received by UKBA, is that correct understanding?

so application can be submitted at NCS or sent by post a day before the above date (assuming special next day delivery is used).

The date of application is the date the application arrives at the UKBA office in Liverpool where citizenship applications are processed.
