You are advised to be in the UK few days after you submit your application.

You must be in the UK on the day when your application is received by UKBA. They mention 5 days because NCS usually sends out the application a day after you attend. eg. if you attend NCS friday afternoon, they might not post in until monday, or if its a bank holiday then not until tuesday. If there is a strike or snow then it might get delayed one more day.

So if you apply through NCS, get the royal mail tracking number from them, and then you can check online if your application is delivered. Same goes if you apply yourself or through a solicitor. Once you have established your application is delivered, you can leave UK if you so wish.

In my opinion, that is no longer a requirement anymore as the 'appropriate receiving authorities' have been changed since 16th July 2012.

prior to 16/7/2012, receiving authorities were different for in country and out of the country application. howeveer now, for both in coutry and out of the country (except channel island, hong kong and some overseas territories), the receiving authority is secretary of the state, home office. so you don't need to be in the UK at the time your application is received - unless you are planning to visit the above places.

I must say that I never got chance to look at the full implications of change of receiving authority. But what you are saying totally makes sense.

Thanks guys!!

I will be in the UK only for 3-4 days after my NCS application, hopefully UKBA should received it (however there is a weekend in those 3-4 days).
