Hi,

I am a naturalized British citizen, I got married last year and applied for my wife's visa and they have refused it. My wife is pregnant and her due date is February 24th. I have filed an appeal where the appeal date is end of February, I know from UKBA website that a baby can acquire British citizen by descent. That can be done by registering the baby as British citizen. I would like to know what is the processing time to register a British citizen and get a passport in India. What is the procedure to do that.

Any help is appreciated.

I am unable to locate any official information on the guidelines. The below is based on someone's experience, so do not rely solely on this post.

A friend of mine was a BC and his baby was born in India. He applied for the child's passport directly in India.

- It took about 14 weeks
- Cost about £80 (just the passport fee)
- Applications cannot be made at the Deputy High Commissions (example Chennai). Can only be made at the High Commission (Delhi)
