This post is regarding my son's British Passport Application. He was granted Citizenship under section 3(1), MN application.

There is a rquirement for Countersignatory for Child's Application.

The guidance note states the following:

A countersignatory is someone who can confirm your identity. They need to confirm that, to the best of their knowledge, the details you have given in your application are correct, and they must also confirm that the photograph is of you.

For child applications (aged under 16) it is also to confirm that they have known, for at least two years, the adult who signed the declaration in
section 9 of the application form. They must also confirm that the person has parental responsibility for the child and confirm the child’s photo.

For a child application under 16, confirm that they have known the adult who signed the declaration in section 9 of the application form for at least two years, and certify the photograph (giving the child’s full name), signing and dating.

Please can you confirm whether the Countersignatory is required to know the child for two years or the adult(who is going to sign the declaration form).

My interpretation is to know the adult and no need to know the child at all.

He doesn't need to know the child but he does sign that the photo is a true likeness so as long as he is happy with that, that's fine.

Thanks Jambo for your help. My friend has recently got his British passport and have known me for more than two years. Not sure whther he will be able to sign the form considering the passport has been acquired recently and not having it for two years. Please could you confirm.

It should be fine. He doesn't need to be a BC for two years. He needs to know you for 2 years and have a valid British passport. He also needs to be on the list of professional (same as references for naturalisation).
