ILR after baby born - How to apply for Baby's UK passport

My wife and me just received our ILRs. However our baby was born a month before we received the ILR. We would like to travel to India as soon as possible, however are unclear as to the options. We are also aiming to apply for British citizenship after 1 year of being on the ILR. Need good advice

1. What is the correct procedure for applying for a British passport for my baby? Do I need to apply for MN1 first? What is the waiting period? What documents are required?

2. What are the implications for going for an Indian passport for my baby now, and getting a UK visa based on our current ILRs? Will this have any impact on our citizenship application in a years time? Will this be quicker than applying for a UK passport for my baby?

Thanks

If baby was born (in the UK) before a parent has ILR, then baby is not Brirish.

See also Dielamma whether to go for ILR or BC for baby.

Thanks for that clarification.

Can you provide any timescales for the option of applying for

MN1 + British Passport + Indian visa

or

Indian passport + UK Visa

MN1 + British Passport + Indian visa

MN1 = They say up to 6 months but average is 4 to 5 weeks
British Passport = could be up to 3 to 4 months but you can opt for fast track which is probably 1 week
Indian Visa = not sure if it is 1 day or 1 week but certainly not more then 1 week

Indian passport + UK Visa

Indian Passport = check with Indian High Commission, you might have some fast track or urgent option where you can get it in a day or week
UK Visa = Could go for PEO or send by post and you will be already aware of time lines for PEO or by post

Hopefully this will help

For Indian related matters better to check the Other countries section of the forums.

If you want to be able to leave the UK the quickest you can, get an Indian passport. You can later apply for a UK visa from India (if you have the time).

Otherwise, getting a BC, passport etc would take about 2 months.

Obviously if you plan to get a British citizenship to all of you in a year time anyway, getting an Indian passport and UK visa might be a waste of money.
