Hi everyone,i'm new to the forum and really hoping someone could help me out.I read the F.A.B & browsed tons of post before posting this one but couldn't find a straight answer.
I'm a EEA citizen and i arrived in the uk in february 2007.
I looked for a job but didn't go trough the job center as my mate i was living with at the time advised me to apply directly to companies for jobs.I worked for a work agency in may 2007 but it wasn't for me so i quit after only a week.
I had some saving at the time and was living with my mate so the money wasn't really tight.
I eventually found a proper job in september 2007 and still work for the same company until now.

I want to apply for a british citizenship soon and wonder if i can apply in june providing a letter from Taskmaster to prove that i worked for them in may 2007 therefore i was in the uk and qualify for the 6 years residence requirement or think the gap between may and september will be a problem and i should wait until september to apply.

I've got another concern aswell,i know you must provide all your absences from the UK but in july 2007 my mate an i went to France & came back the very same day,i tried hard but can't remember the exact date,just the month and year,i can't ask my friend as he left the country and we lost touch,will just the year and month be accepted when applying?

I discovered this website just recently and I know you guys work your socks off days an nights to help people,i've got no one else to turn to and any advised would be really appreciated.

What's the rush to become British?

What did you do between May and September 2007? Did you search for a job? Can you provide proof of that (applications, emails etc?).

You can apply in June if you can support your application with job seeking evidence or just wait for September and make a much simpler application.

Are you aware that by becoming British, you will not be able to make use of EEA regulations in future (to bring family member for example) and will be subject to the more strict UK immigration rules?

Between May and septembre 2007 i was looking for a job & i've got some emails,applications form to prove it but i will wait until septembre or october to apply,it's better to be on the safe side.
Do you have any suggestion regarding my trip to France in 2007 and the fact i can't remember the exact date,just the month and year?

If you can't recall the date, you can mention that on page 13. As you returned the same day, it doesn't count as an absence. I would not worry too much about it.

Jambo, isn't this the case only if a dual British/EEA national has not exercised treaty rights in (self) employment in another EU/EEA member state prior to an application for a non-EEA family member?

So, say my husband (Swiss/British) and I emigrate to CH and spend a year working/running a paying business and then decide to return to the UK, we would still be able to apply for a EEA family permit for a parents if they were dependants - correct?

If so then I do not see the substantial disadvantage in dual citizenship IF an EEA national feels strongly about naturalising. It simply means that they do not have more rights than sole British nationals.

This is all true. However, using Surinder Singh is not always an easy option (moving with family, finding employment etc) so I just wanted to highlight there are disadvantages (immigration wise) becoming British which not everyone might be aware of.
