my friend is applying for naturalisation he is confused with his date of first entry to uk in AN form:
he came to uk in Jan 2003 as student than he got hsmp in 2006 but it stamped from pakistan and on new passport as old passport with student visa was expired. He cam to uk after hsmp on 18 december 2006? which date he mention ?

When he entered the UK as a student.

as he left the country and entered on a new hsmp visa i would write 18th Dec 2006
but either date can be used and will not make any difference to the application.

He came to uk 12th Jan 2003 and his visa student expired on 7th dec 2006. He left uk on 3rd Dec 206 got hsmp stamped 14th dec came back to uk on 18th dec 2006.

which date to mention.
