Hi, I will be applying for naturalisation next month. I do not know any professional for three years. Somewhere I read that it will be fine if the professional referee is of any nationality living abroad. As I know many professional persons living in my home country, and they would be willing to act as a referee. Does it fulfill the requirement ?

What I have read in the guidelines that the person with proffessional standing is not expected to be British, not even a commonwealth citizen.

However in the practice everyone here (including myself) have been looking for a British referee to fill this prof. requirement for some reasons.

Maybe we should ask the question why people do this but ignore the guidance requirement of AN form stating proffessional can be from any nationality?

Can't you use your work colleagues whom you work with ?

We used our work managers and dentist as professional refrees , as far as we know the person has to be a british citizen to provide you with a refrence

one has to be of professional standing and the other can be a work colleague who has known you for more than 3 years
