I have got my ILR in Dec 2012.. Do I have take this new KOL requirement starting from 28 Oct 2013. Please advise me on this. I did have satisfied the Life in the UK requirement during my ILR.



"The situation is different for those who applied or apply for settlement before 28 October 2013.
They will have satisfied the KoLL requirement by either passing the Life in the UK test or by taking
an ESOL qualification (probably at a level below B1) and this by itself will not be sufficient should
they later apply for naturalisation. They will need to satisfy the new KoLL requirement but if they
have already passed the Life in the UK test will not need to retake it. For some people this will
mean passing a relevant speaking and listening qualification for the first time. Others will need to
pass a speaking and listening qualification at a higher level than they had to demonstrate to be
granted leave to enter or leave to remain in the UK"

It depends, if you are the spouse/civil p of a British citizen? If not, then do you have a degree taught in English, if so, where did you study?

My self is the primary applicant and I have got my M.Sc degree from UK and my previous visa before ILR is TIER-1.

How early can people take " Life in the UK " test? Would love to get it out of the way. Thank you for your time

Then you should be fine, you said you're the primary applicant, is your spouse/civil p applying if so, does s(he) have a degree taught in English?

She is away from the UK last one year and she wont be eligible. Waiting for ILR dependent visa from India.

You should be able to as the life in the UK test has no expiry date.

@D4109125: I fulfilled the English requirement as primary tier1 applicant by producing a letter from Bangalore university stating the medium is english.

Do I automatically satisfy the KOL requirement?

If I did get a NARIC certificate for my spouse, would that fulfill the KOL requirement for her. She is a graduate from Bangalore.

It would meet the new language requirement Yes, if NARIC confirmed its comparability or it was awarded 10 points on the PBS calculator. For KOLL she would also need the LIUK test or equivalent.
