How well should my referee know me?

Hi,

would you know if a solicitor (registeded with UKBA) who has seen me 3 times (during the appointments) about 4 years ago and with whom I have exchanged maybe a dozen emails and a few phone calls would be suitable as a referee.

Solicitor has agreed to sign the form, but I want to doublecheck.

Thanks.

Providing the referee knows you personally for at least three years and is not involved in your nationality application.

Thanks for your response.

"knows you personally for at least three years" - does he has to know me 'continuously' or meeting him a few times 4 years ago is fine?

 how long they have known the applicant
 how, when and for what reason they met or meet the applicant
The solicitor should not be employed by the Home Office.
