Time to apply soon so I would be grateful if I can be reassured that things are in order and that I actually meet the residential requirements. At present I am waiting to reduce my absences outside the UK under 90 days for 12 months before the application.

ILR based on 10 year long residence obtained on 01/09/2012.
Absences outside the UK for Jan 2009 - Jan 2014 are under 450 days
Absences for the last 12 months before the application are under 90 days if I apply in Jan 2014, I hope? - Jan 2013 to Jan 2014. I was outside the UK for 31 days in Jan 2013, 28 days in Feb 2013, 12 days in March 2013 and 17 days in November 2013 = Total 87 days.

So assuming the above is correct, I can apply anytime after 2nd Jan 2014 to be safe?

Thank you for any help in advance.

Just count 12 month backwards from the date of application and make sure your absences are 90 days or less.
Also make sure that exactly 5 years before the date of application, you were physically present in UK.

Minus 5(3) years plus one day, rather than exactly. And counting back from the date in which the Home Office receive the application rather than when it's submitted.
