Visiting India post naturalisation

Hi,

I naturalized as a British citizen in mid December and plan to travel to India in Feb (vfs have confirmed that I can travel with my Indian passport for 90 days post naturalisation).

My daughter was born as a British citizen and she is travelling with my wife (an Indian citizen) in Jan. I'll be applying for her Indian tourist visa, but in the application form I would need to enter my nationality and passport details.
Since I recently naturalized as a British citizen, I'm yet to receive my British passport and hence cannot enter my British passport details.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to enter my nationality as Indian with my Indian passport details (and perhaps add a letter detailing my circumstances). I'm worried that this may delay the application process. I posted the query to vfs, but their reply hasn't been helpful i.e., they didn't answer my question.

Really appreciate if any of you had been in this situation or know what the right approach is.

I thought this was the right forum to post my query. Apologies if this not the right one.

Thanks,
Karthik

Once you naturalise you become a citizen of that country. Having said this the key to your situation is have you surrendered your Indian Passport? If not you can say you are an Indian National and give your Indian Passport details. But if you have surrendered your Indian Passport (which I believe you would not have given your travel plans), you can say you are Indian National.

Thanks for the reply VR. Much appreciated.
Yes, I plan to surrender my Indian passport after my visit to India in Feb.

Quick question - for the 90 days grace period post naturalisation, am I also an Indian citizen technically?

Cheers
Karthik

Karthik,

You arent a Indian citizen technically the day you got your naturalization certificate. You are technically British even without your British passport. You apply passport only if you want to travel

You can assume you are Indian until you surrender your passport. When you get to India dont say you are British. Also put in your indian passport details on your daughters visa application form. I'm certain Indian Embassy wouldnt know you are a naturalised British until you surrender your passport

Hope this helps!!!
