Referees & Identity

Hello all
I was looking for information specifically on the referees as part of the naturalisation application. I am looking to get my company director as one of the referee who is a UK citizen. In addition, I was planning to get my colleague a UK citizen from the same company.
I am not sure if both the referees can be known to each other as they both work in the same company?
The Guide says "Both referees should not be a relative to the applicant, solicitor or agent of the applicant or related to the other referee"
Could anyone please shed some light on this?
