Dear All

I have received my spouse visa on 23/11/2011 ( this is the dated issued in the visa) and i arrived in the UK on 15/12/2011.
and then i have applied for ILR and i received it on 18th of Nov 2013.

My husband is british born Citizen and he is a professional self-employed and i have as well some assets outside country where i get my income from, we do not take any benefit.

I would like to apply for british passport and i know it is still early but i would like to gather as much info as i can as it seems a little bit difficult compare to getting ILR :

I have few question if you could help me please:
1: Which date i can apply for Naturalism/Citizenship ? (Some1 have told me i can apply 28 days before i have received my ILR )

2: Can my Referees be my husband and His Mother ? Can my referee be my bank which i have opened the account nearly 3 years ago ? or it should be a person .

3: Do home office really call the referee ! anyone have had this experience please?

4: I understand i can apply through checking service so i can get back the original documents and my husband passport after being checked by the closest council checking service to my house. Do they tell you what you missing ?

5: it is really not clear the document required by the home office for Spouse regarding the citizenship , I do not work at the moment however my husband own his house with his mother and he has enough income and as i said before i have some property outside UK which i have translate and certify the title deed.
so as i do not work and i do not have national insurance number.
what i need to send to home office ?
for ILR I have provided the home office with the assets i own and my husband company documents and our bills like council , electricity, gas etc, pictures together our Travel bookings (hotels & tickets) to different countries.
Do i have to present them all over again everything for me and my husband or just documents regarding me?

6: as i have a straightforward case how long should i expect the home office grant me ?
( i heard some1 have received their application with in 2 months about 2 years ago and they were taking benefit.)

Thank you
Maria

Hi Maria,
I will try to answer to some of your questions.

2. Your referee can not be some one you are related to. As a first referee a bank manager would do fine and as a second it can be anyone over the age of 25 with British passport.
3. In few cases HO contacts referee.
4. Usually people working at NCS are well trained and they should tell you what you are missing. They copy your documents and return the originals to you.
5. When applying as a spouse of BC it is not required to be employed.
6. It takes anything between 2 - 6 months to get approval. Today few February applicants have got their approvals while some of October/November are still waiting.

Hope this helps.

I have few question if you could help me please:
1: Which date i can apply for Naturalism/Citizenship ? (Some1 have told me i can apply 28 days before i have received my ILR ) You can apply from after 15 December 2014. There is no '28 rule' for citizenship.

2: Can my Referees be my husband and His Mother ? Can my referee be my bank which i have opened the account nearly 3 years ago ? or it should be a person . Not any family. Professional of any nationality and British Citizen over 25 years of age.

3: Do home office really call the referee ! anyone have had this experience please? Who knows, maybe sometimes they do.

4: I understand i can apply through checking service so i can get back the original documents and my husband passport after being checked by the closest council checking service to my house. Do they tell you what you missing ? They will advise you and also have a direct telephone line to the UKBA if they have queries.

Both spouses passports, ILR BRP, marriage certificate, LIUK, level B1 English proof. There is no requirement to be employed for citizen applications, however you should consider applying for a national insurance card as you need this to be able to claim state pension etc.

6: as i have a straightforward case how long should i expect the home office grant me ?
( i heard some1 have received their application with in 2 months about 2 years ago and they were taking benefit.) ILR holders are allowed to claim benefits.

Thank you
