Dear Experts,

My application for Naturalisation was recently approved and the ceremony is next week.

I normally need a Schengen visa due to my Colombian nationality. I have to travel to Greece in 3 weeks, which normally means I would need to apply for a Schenge Visa, but given the fact that I will be a British citizen by then but will not have enough time to apply and receive the British passport, can I travel on my Colombian passport without visa showing my Brisitsh citizenship certificate? or do I need to apply for a Schengen visa and show at the Greek embassy my British citizenship certificate?

Thank you very much for your help.

David

You might want to double check this with senior members but I think you need a Schengen visa since you will be traveling on your old passport. I would recommend that if you get your visa and travel to take your certificate of naturalization with you so that you can show it on UK border when you come back.

Unfortunately, until such time as you receive your British Passport, you will still need to apply for a Schengen visa if traveling on your Columbian passport. Being a British Citizen and not having a passport does not mean visa free travel.

Make sure you travel with your ILR/PR proof, foreign passport and Naturalisation certificate for when you re-enter the UK.
