Child travelling back to UK on Cert of Registration

Dear Moderators and Gurus,

I have a simple question, for which I have been trying to get answer and unable to find one. Question is as follows:

"Can a child born in the UK, holding Certificate of Registration as British Citizen, travel back from his home country to UK on this certificate, rather than a British Passport?"

As its an urgency for my wife and kid to travel back to my home conntry(which allows dual nationality with GB), and we do not wish to apply for British Passport from there as it is taking 6 months, so will it matter at immigration desk if my kid has no passport and only Cert of registration?

Answer to this question will really help me in the situation I am right now.

Thanks.

Regards,

You need a passport (Britsh of foreign) to re-enter the UK. A certificate of registration is not a travel document.

If the child has a foreign passport and visa/ILR - no problem to enter.

A fast track child British passport application takes 3-4 days.
