Hi all,

I am applying for my naturalisation but I am stuck on the referees. I have looked at https://www.gov.uk/government/collectio ... s-volume-1, but I cant find acceptable non-British referee list.

Can someone please help me with the list?

make a suggestion on what options you have and senior members will let u know if its fine or not.

Doesn't have to be non-British, both can be British.

One referee has to be British and over 25 years of age. Most people use this one for their personal referee.

The other referee can be any nationality but must be a professional according the list of acceptable referee list.

Both referees must have known you for at least 3 years.

Thanks for the list, I am a software engineer, I mostly have friends from software domain, hence finding it difficult to find people mentioned in the list. But it seems we have Engineers as one of the option, I will check with colleagues and see if they can give me a reference.

Can the referee for the professional standing be a non British person ?

Also, can the British referee be a recent naturalised citizen

, The First refree he dosen't have to be British , from any Nationality and he have known me for more than 3 years .
The question is ; IF HE CAN BE FROM ANY NATIONALITY ,IS IT A MUST THAT HE LIVE IN THE UK OR IS IT OK IF LIVE IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY ?

No!

The giveaway is in the relationship: uncle. He is some sort of in-law.

I am applying for Naturalisation on 10th. I'm confused with this referee section as well.
I am planning to use both British citizen from my work place to act as referee.
One of them is Chartered Engineer and
other is contracting at work so he is Director of his VAT registered company

These guys know me for 3 years from work place.

Can I use them as reference??

Any prompt response will be really helpful.

Thanks for that. My solicitor is a EU national (I needed someone who knew the law of the country where I come from, and spoke the language), although the practice does employ British solicitors too! For the other referee, I'll try and use a work colleague: there is a lot of turnover, but some of the staff have been there for over 3 years, thankfully. I don't think the people I meet at the gym would agree to sign the form, they would probably say they don't know me well enough. Otherwise, I could take up a sport and wait a couple of years to apply, but frankly I don't have the time or energy. Passed Life in the UK yesterday: 6 hour fifty minutes return trip (bus, train and walking) to the test centre, where I spent 20 minutes all in all (5 minutes to take the test). A bit angry, as it took nearly all my Saturday: if I had been able to book the test in London, at least I would have been able to get other things done! At least now it's done, just have to be careful not to lose the test result, especially as I am likely to move house once or twice before I can apply for citizenship!
