Hi everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well

I am new here, and I really need help regarding my son's citizenship.

I came to the UK at at 14 yrs old with my family (I'm 21 now) we got leave to remain which we then re applied and got ILR in January 2013 but my biometric card did not until April 2013, my son was born in January 2013 in London, and since I was not aware, and I needed to travel to Switzerland for work, so I needed a passport for him urgently but at the passport office they told me that he does not qualify for a British Passport as when he was born I did not have ILR, they told me I needed to register him as a BC although he was born here, I am planning to do my naturalisation later on this year too, and I don't know whether I should add my son too? as it will cost me £600 just for him. Since his father is Italian, under Italian law he automatically qualifies for Italian citizenship and a passport, the Italian Consulate was very helpful and we managed within 4 hours to get him an Italian passport, I honestly still want him to get a British passport since he was born here, but my question is, how do I proceed? I am really confused, if I become a BC will he automatically qualify for a BP or do I still need to register him as a BC ? and will he not be a problem if he has Italian citizenship?

help please

thank you

If neither parent was settled nor British at the time of child's birth, then child is entitled to register for British citizenship after a parent is settled. Italian dual citizenship should be okay too.
