I think you should be able to apply..
but it is a painfull and long process of 4 months.. and also expect some rejections... from the users experience here its not a smooth road at all..

Is your kid with your wife in India ? if she doesnt have British citizenship..

you have to send your Bristish passport..
show address proof in India ..
sometime you may have to prove with many medical reports that he is your son..

Thanks for the reply
My wife and son are in Uk my wife and I have indian passport. As it is taking longer here in the Uk I thought I could apply it from India so that he can spend time in India. So do you suggest I apply it from here as it will easy and faster here ?

For a child you can apply using the fast track service. It costs a little bit more and takes about 1 week.

Slightly different question pertaining to the above thread. After getting british passport for the child can we surrender Indian passport in India after travelling there and apply for PIO card from India ? As I understand there will be grace period of 3 months ?

Thanks
