My friend who is a Liberian national obtained British citizenship 5 years ago
She has a daughter who was living with the father in Liberia but he died recently. The daughter has now moved to live with a friend in Sierra Leone. Can my friend apply for a british passport for her immediately or does she have to apply for ILE first?

Where and when was her daughter born?

If her daughter is not British, then she may apply for a visa. Sole responsibility is not required.

So is that an automatic British passport application then? Looking at the link you supplied it would appear so but just want to be sure.

If her daughter was born after she became British, then yes.

It appears in this situation my friend's child was born in 1998 BEFORE she obtained ILR and British citizenship (2011) so going back to my original question please could you advise whether she is able to apply for naturalisation whilst still living abroad or whether she has to apply for ILE first.

My friend would like to go ahead and apply for ILE first, she has looked at para 297 and would like to know how can she prove that she can accommodate and maintain her daughter without recourse to public funds when she is living in a two bed housing association property, she has two other children ages 7 and 3 who are also British and she claims child tax credit, child benefit and housing benefit. She is a full time student so she has student finance loan as income.

Should she have separate savings to show that she will not be claiming for her child when she arrives from Liberia?

Slightly confused - does the link apply to those applying for child settlement visa? The mother is a full time student so will be relying on £13.000 student finance loan as income. This is paid to her in three instalments throughout the academic year. She has £1500.00 held in a savings account for less than six months. She also has child benefit, child tax credit and housing benefit because she has two other children who are British.

If she adds all this income together and deducts housing costs then she is above the income support limit but when reading up at paragraph 5 on evidence to be supplied, it doesnt mention student finance loan so is this permitted? How does she prove adequate maintenance.
