Hi,

Next month I will have had my ILR for 12 months and intend to apply for naturalisation. I acquired my ILR through long stay (10 years)

I travel quite frequently for my work and therefore do many short 1 or 2 day trips into Europe. I am wondering how you calculate a day absence. For example, if I travel today and return tomorrow. Is that 1, 2 or 0 days absent from the UK?

In other words, do you include the entry and or the departure date when counting the days absent.

By my calculation, I am on 82 days absent now. This is based on a calculation that looks something like:

Depart on 18/10/2014 and return to the UK 20/10/2014 equates to 2 days out of the country.

Is this correct?

Plz read page 4 & 7 for residential requirement.
As you said in last line of your paragraph, if you left on 18/10/2014 and came back on 20/10/2014 then it would count just 1 day not 2 because you have to take away the departure and arrival date from count and I am sure someone senior on this forum will correct me on this.

If you left UK on 18.12. and returned on 20.12. you were 1 day absent.

@legend786 - I had read the document you provided a link for. However, this document does not mention how to calculate a day absent. But considering your reponse and the response of @milan69, I believe that excluding the arrival and departure date is the correct method.
