Reference - Trade Union Officer

Hi everyone,
I am currently filling in the AN1 application for British Citizenship. I need to choose my professional referee who known me personally for last 3 years. Here, I have a question - how Home Office interprets "trade union officer" as one of acceptable professional referees? Does my workplace's trade union representative (H&S rep) counts in this definition or does it need to be a person directly employed by my union (such as an area organiser)?
He already served as referee for other 3 persons at my workplace and it worked fine, but I would like to ask for clarification.
Many thanks
