Naturalisation/Registeration application for Minor

Hi All,

I will like to start by thanking everyone for all help in past.

Background
I am a British citizen (Naturalisation granted in August 2012 based on 5 years on work visas) and my spouse and son joined me in UK on Spouse visa in July 2012. Both my son and wife were granted ILR on 03 February 2015. My son was born in India in January 2012.

Query?
Based on the fact that I am a citizen and both my son and wife are on ILR, can I apply for British citizenship or register my son as a British citizen?

I read guide MN1 and I believe/understand I can apply but the grant is dependent on the basis of discretion. Please correct me if I am wrong or/and what are the chances he will be granted?

Normally how long such application takes? and I assume I can use NCS for application whereby I do not need to submit his passport.

Apologies for lot of questions but one question automatically leads to another.

Thanks for all help.

Maulik

I believe you can register you child as he is holding ILR and you are British citizen and your spouse has ILR. I think you have very good chances especially if you have settled, your child has been living here for almost 3 years and you can prove that your child's future lies in UK.
9.17.2
The most important criterion is that the child's future should clearly be seen to lie in the UK.
Here is the link to similar posts together with Chapter 9 - registration of minors at discretion.

Your wife can apply in July.

Thanks Milan.

What do I need to provide with my application to prove that my child's future lies in UK. As the application decision is based on discretion I want to provide as much evidence as possible.

What should my cover letter cover?

Any other things I need to be careful of or should add to make my case stronger.

Thanks again.

Nothing, as far as I can see. My personal scenario was myself on ILR, wife and daughter on ILR. I applied for myself and my daughter for Naturalisation, just added a cover letter that all three of us have got ILR and would very much like to make UK our home. Attached with AN and MN1 applications. This is not necessary but since I always attached a cover letter, so I did it here too.

That's it, got Naturalised and she got registered, don't worry too much. Just take a look at this link for common questions.

Good luck.

As fwd079 said state either in a cover letter or on the application form that your son have made UK his home together with his parents having lived almost all his life in UK.
I am sure that you are aware that your wife can apply in July this year for naturalisation.
