citizenship registration for child born in UK

Dear members.
My son was born in UK last year may and he has dependent visa based on my tier 2 general category since 6 months and valid till ma 14th 2015. I got my ILR on 31 st march 2015. I am bit confused about applying British citizenship.
I read in one of the forum that i can register my son as british citizen now and can apply for british passport after 12 months of my ILR.
I am wondering if i need to extend his dependent visa ( ILR dependent) as British citizenship registration application is processed.
