We had a baby in Jan this year and applied for her British passport in India straighaway. We still havent heard anything and everytime i call PP office i get different stories. Today's story was that it could take anywhere upto 2 yrs. I am thinking enough is enough and i will withdraw british passport application and look for other options. Could some advice me what options i have.

One of them i think but not sure is to apply for her Indian passport which she should get in 15 days and apply for UK Dependent visa. Can someone advice the processing time lines for this please?

Thanking you

Another option for British citizens without British passports is a CoE-RoA.

However, it's more expensive. Moreover, insufficiently trained ECOs sometimes misinterpret the legislation and wrongly refuse British citizens. They have also removed Rights of appeal, and surprisingly, there's no AR option, in this category!

What is your current status and that of your spouse?
Given that you mentioned that you applied for your baby's passport in India, I presume that one of you is a British citizen. If both of you are British citizens, the child is not eligible for an Indian passport. If one of you is British and the other is an Indian citizen, then the child is eligible for an Indian passport if born in India.

Also, if the child is British, she is ineligible for a visa to come to the UK. Citizens can not be issued a visa to their own country.

Then the only choice would be a CoE-RoA on an Indian passport, if one parent is Indian and the other is British.
As mentioned before, if both parents are British, the only option is to get a British passport.
