Date of Entry and Employment History

Hi Members,

Need some advice.

I came to UK on Student visa in July 2007. Got PSW in September 2008. Went to India in May 2010 and got Tier 1 Dependant Visa. got Tier 1 Dependant extension in July 2012. Got ILR in July 2014. I would be looking at applying for naturalisation in July 2015.

I want to know what should be the date of entry be for the following question "day you first arrived with a view to staying in the UK on a long-term basis"

I did get my Tier 1 Dependant Visa from India. So should the answer for the above question be May 2010 or should it be July 2007?

Also the follow up question regarding employment history , would it be from 2007 or from May 2010 ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

although it says that, the first arrival date should be the very first date u came to stay long term, after lengthy discussions with the ncs lady yesterday she told me to put the very first day my husband arrived. so in your case it will be the very first day you entered the UK on student visa

I see varied answers on this type of question. However, my personal view is that the most appropriate date here would be May 2010. The reason being, when you entered as a student you wouldn't have entered with a view to stay in the UK on a long term basis.
Your employment history, should cover the last 10 years (or less if you've lived/worked in the UK less than 10 years) from your application date. This is independent to the question above.

It's up to you ultimately but when I attended NCS a couple of days ago, the ncs wasn't sure on this question either since the guidance say the date in which u view to be staying long term....so she rang them and that caseworker told us it goes from very first arrival/ first presence in the UK so completely contradictory to the guidance notes.

I entered as a student in 2004 and got my ILR on the basis of long residence. In that case what date i have to mention as Student category in it's own doesn't lead towards settlement?

That poses an interesting question. Were you a student throughout the entire 10 year long residence period for ILR?

Yes.
In your particular case, theres technically no appropriate answer. But as you do need to answer that question, the only date that you could enter would be the date you first entered the UK as a student.

Interesting thread. I came as a student in 2004 and was a student for 9 years and 1 year of Tier 2 (General). I'm wondering if I should write 2004 or 2013 (when I got my Tier 2)?
