MN1 Category 3(1) for child born abroad - pls help

Hello All,
I would like some advise on the application for Naturalization for my 8 year old daughter please. Any advice is much appreciated.
My husband is a British citizen (by naturalization) and I our 8-year old daughter and I are on ILR since 2011.
As my daughter was born outside of the UK, her application is under Category 3(1) - at the Home Secretary’s discretion.
I would be very grateful if you could clarify the following questions please:
1. Would the HO consider my daughter’s application on its own (with me continuing to stay on the ILR – I wish to apply for Naturalization at a latter date after adopting a child form our home country)
2. Can we use the Document checking service at the Post Office for Category 3(1) which is at the Home Secretary’s discretion
3. We are hoping to travel in Dec. Can we travel while the application is in process; Would they want to keep her passport if it takes up to 6 months?
Thanks very much

1) Application to register would normally be made (expected) together with yours as mother.
They may consider it if you can make a very good case as to why, but I believe it would be very unusual & exceptional.
Remember the grounds for 3(1) of BNA are all at Home Secretary's discretion.
2) The checking service is offered by local councils (not Post Office - that is Check&Send for passports; that comes later).
Shop around as the fees the councils charge do vary.
3) You can travel if you apply via NCS as your documents are returned to you.
Just be aware:
you may have follow up questions from HO to answer so someone needs to be monitoring your mail for you;
&
you (your daughter) will in any case be called in to enrol biometrics so you need to be available in UK for that
within the allotted time window.
I think (but am no expert here) that applying with you daughter now & applying separately for an adopted child (by themselves) at a later date would make more sense to the HO.

Hi
Thanks very much for your quick response. It's much appreciated.
I think we would apply for myself and my daughter together as advised by you.
Could I please clarify whether we can use the NCS even though we will be under Category 3(1) as we have already booked to travel in Dec?
Thanks very much

According to this other opinion you could register your child independently:

I used NCS for my step-daughter's registration earlier this year.
Either way, you can use NCS - just find a local council of your choice & book with them.
Try Google NCS for where you live or else see
https://www.gov.uk/government/collectio ... ng-service
There is an additional fee, something like £40 or £50, but it's well worth it for the error-checking they perform as well as to retain your original documents.
You can track processing timelines here, (it may take several months):

- remember to be in UK for the biometrics enrolment or the application will be put at risk.

MN1 referee time limit

Hi,
I got my daughter's teacher to sign as a referee for her MN1 application on 20 th july. However, now, can only submit the application on the 31st of aug.
My query is: would it be a problem that the referee attesting is over a month old? Is there a timeline on this pls? I am reluctant to trouble the teacher again if it is possible to avoid that at all.
Thanks very much

1 month or so should not pose a problem.
Yes there is a timeline: HO appears to work within a 6 month time limit, as per section 6.3.7.2 of guidance:
