Naturalisation - Change of first name (birth certificate)

Hi guys,

My daughter is born in India and arrived in UK as a dependant of Tier 1 visa. She then attained ILR at the same time as myself. I applied for her naturalisation when I was getting naturalised but it was rejected since my wife wasn't on ILR.

I have now booked naturalisation appointment for her on 15th September.

But there is one important thing we would like to do is 'Change her First name'. We did get her name changed in Birth certificate (India) last month when she travelled to India.

Now, I'm just wondering whether this would cause any problem.

Procedure I intend to follow for change of first name:
1. Apply for Naturalisation with her original name
2. Apply for British passport on new name with deedpoll
3. Surrender her Indian passport
4. Apply for OCI card based on new name

Can anyone please share your thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

In UK it would not be usual to change a birth certificate due to change of name as the certificate reflects a record of an event at a point in time.

For #1 & 2 there may be questions when you apply for British passport if the name on Indian passport is different from the name on the UK registration certificate.

I cannot comment on #3 & 4.
