New British passport with expired US passport?

guys I had my British citizenship ceremony on December 23rd, once the New Year has passed I’d like to apply for a passport.
Curious — my US passport expired November 17th. I was loathe to renew it since I applied for naturalisation on July 7th, but due to a spelling error with my middle name, the Home Office advised me they might ask to for additional information or identification during their review.
So can I apply for a new British passport with an expired US passport? I do have two past US passports, the earliest containing my (now inapplicable) Indefinite Leave to remain.
If not I can always renew the US first, however they reportedly take about one month to process.
Thanks again for all the help and information this board provides.

What name appears on your naturalisation certificate? The correct spelling or the wrong one?
HMPO is likely to make an issue if your documents don't match.
Edit : applying with expired passport should be ok.

the name on my naturalisation certificate precisely matches that on the expired passports. The confusion arose during my three Home Office applications leading to ILR.
Specifically, I had three interactions with Home Office before naturalising: my original work permit in 1997, an extension in 2000, and Indefinite Leave in 2002.
The extension letter I received from Home Office omitted my middle name. I didn't notice at the time.
I provided copies of all three letters to the Home Office when the confusion first arose (during biometrics, actually, letter issued without my middle name). Home Office thanked me for clarifying, but said they might need additional information during my application process.
I never heard from them again until I received my approval.

A British passport will be issued based on the name you have in your foreign passport and what is on your naturalisation certificate. Trying to change it for the BC passport application will likely cause delays or a refusal. HMPO have new guidelines and have become very strict on this, it even affects women changing to their married name once they have had the citizenship ceremony.

If you have all your correspondence, old passports, birth certificate etc, worth a try.

If I'm reading this correctly I should be ok.
Full name on expired US passports matches full name on Naturalisation Certificate.
Full name on two out of three Home Office letters matches full name on Naturalisation Certificate.
Only one letter omitted my middle name, and it was a Home Office error. So it seems I should be good to go.
If I've missed anything please let me know, otherwise I'll give it a try.
Thanks for all your help !

If your passports and naturalisation certificates match, then there is no issue at all.
HO letters are just that, letters.
