Hello

I have a view questions regards the BCN. I am German citizen so are my UK born Children (13,5,1) and my husband. I live here now 17 years and would like to go ahead with the BCN.
There are so many confusing ways of doing the application.
I hold a couple of english qualification and hope I do not need the english test. Also would I need to apply for permanent residency first or not. Or is it enough to just apply for BCN?
There are many guidelines but not very clear.
If anyone can be of assistance I greatly appreciate the advise given.( Also I am in work since I came to England)

thank you :)

Hi Heidi,

You will need to apply for a Confirmation of Permanent Residence first. To obtain this, you need to submit form EEA (PR) along with evidence of having exercised treaty rights in the UK for 5 continuous years. Any 5 year period counts. If you have worked for 5 continuous year, you could submit 5xP60s and letters from your employers for example. Once you have your Document Certifying PR, you can apply for British Citizenship once you have held PR for one year. The important date is the one you acquired PR automatically, not the issue date of your Document Certifying Permanent Residence. If you wish to apply for Citizenship as soon as you receive your Document Certifying PR, you should apply on the basis of a 5 year period which ended at least a year ago.For your citizenship application you will need to submit form AN and meet the absence, Life in the UK and English and good character requirements. Exceptions for people with UK degrees are mentioned here: https://www.gov.uk/english-language/degrees-in-english
It's best you start reading guide EEA PR for your Permanent Residence application and then guide and booklet AN once you apply for naturalisation:

Viel Glück :)
P.S.: An interesting thread in German describing the whole process which is quite helpful: http://www.deutsche-in-london.net/forum ... eantragen/

Suggest checking original passport with which you entered UK.

You may have been granted ILR on entry in those days (pre-2000).
A longshot but worth a look.

If you have a degree studied in English that will suffice for English proficiency, but LITUK will still be required for privilege of citizenship.

Thank you both for the replies. I thought I might have to apply for PR. Was not quite sure. Can I do this via my Employer? I be with them for 15 years in a months time... :D
I have obtained NVQ 3 Level in Business and Administration. I would of thought this would be proof enough. Its all new to me and I am gutted I have to wait for a whole year :shock:

I will read up on the links you given. Thanks again :)

What do you mean apply through your employer? :shock:

You may want to download this form and have a read through it: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... _07-15.pdf

And also the 17 pages of guidance notes: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... nts_v1.pdf

As far as I am aware NVQ Level 3 is not normally enough to satisfy the language requirement for UK citizenship. The Home Office usually require a degree which would correspond to a qualification at NVQ Level 6.

You do not have to wait for a whole year. You need to wait at least a year from the day you automatically acquired Permanent Residence status, but not 12 months from the issue date of the PR confirmation document.
If you would like to apply immediately after receiving your PR confirmation document, you should use a qualifying period for your PR application which ended at least a year ago, e.g. Dec 2009-Dec 2014.
The caseworker dealing with your application will record the date you acquired PR in the CID (Caseworker Information Database) and the person dealing with your application for British Citizenship will then be able to access the date you got your PR via this database.
You cannot apply for PR through your employer but if you were working continuously you just need to provide 5xP60s or/and a letter from them confirming your employment plus some additional documents confirming your residence in the UK (in case your employment wasn't full-time), easy peasy :)

You need to approach this step by step; shoot for PR card first;
then privilege of citizenship;
finally the holy grail: passport

Your employer cannot apply for anything for you.

In immigration terms NVQ can't help you.

You don't need English or LITUK for confirmation of PR.

Have you checked your 1990s passport yet - to see if you have an ILR stamp/annotation already?
