Registration as citizen - UK mother

Hello,
Firstly, thank you to all the advice given to other members on this board. Luckily this was one of the first resources that I found via Google when I was looking for information on this topic.
I hope to send my form today.
My mum was born in the UK and emigrated to Australia when she was 7 or 8 and I was born in Australia in 1980 (Dad is Australian). She travelled on her parent's passport and took up Australian citizenship. She has only has Australian passports since. From other topics here though I believe that not having her British passport isn't a deal breaker.
Questions:
1) I have our original birth certificates. I can also send her parents' birth and marriage certificates if that will held with 'proving' that she is a British Citizen otherwise than by descent. Is that worth including?
2) I understand HO estimate a 6 months processing time. I've seen some other timelines posted from members here with some as short as a couple of months and others as long as over a year (one member applied a year ago and only now got told it will take more than six months). Are there any common factors behind longer applications? Or another way of asking, is there anything I should do to make processing easier?
Thank you.
