Naturalisation for Child Born in UK - Form MN1 or S3

Hi Everyone,

I hope I am posting the question in the correct forum.

We have very recently got ILR. We have a 7 month old boy and want to apply to register him as British and then get him a British Passport.
Child does not have any passport at the moment i.e. no passport from either parent's home country. However the birth was registered in UK and he has got a Birth Certificate.

Now, to register him, can we use form MN1 or do we have to use form S3.
I am little confused because form MN1 question 1.9 asks for the present Nationality of the Child.

I would really appreciate your help please.
Thanks
R

You can only use MN1 under section 1(3) of the nationality act.

Your child is NOT stateless. A passport is ONLY a travel document. The child would have assumed your nationality and that is what you complete for 1.9. Child does not need a foreign passport to register as British if born in the UK.

CR001,

Many thanks for your response. it clears my confusion :)

Just one follow up question. If Mother and Father have different nationalities, in Question 1.9 we can write nationality of either parent ..... is that correct?

Again many thanks for a response on Sunday, Bless you.
Thanks
R

Either is fine. Suggest you write the nationality of the parent whose proof of ILR and passport you are sending.
