Applying for citizenship and Changing Name

Hi,

My Wife currently has ILR and we want to apply for her citizenship. She has a Pakistani passport at the moment, but we would like to change the name on there (spelt incorrectly and with an extra name - long story).

When we apply for the citizenship, is it possible to get the name changed via the citizenship application process or would we need to change name via deed poll or something? Once the citizenship is done, we would be making a British passport with her new name on it. Is this possible?

If not does anyone have an idea of what the process would be to get her name changed for her citizenship?

I have the marriage certificate and any other documents that would be necessary.

If you wish her "correct" name to be reflected in a (first) British passport, start with getting the Pakistani passport amended first. Then apply for British citizenship.
Else she will have major issues if she applies for her first British passport under her "correct name".

You need to change name by deed poll, then change foreign passport to new name and then apply for citizenship.

Or, you can apply for citizenship, wait for approval and then apply for passport. Then do deed poll and then reapply for passport.

Citizenship and BC passport will only be granted in the name on the foreign passport. They are strict about this (multiple identities issue).

Ok, will have to go through that process then. Thanks for the replies.
