Registration for British Citizenship for New Born

Hi All,
My son was born on the 9th April and I am due for ILR on 16th May.
I have following questions:
1) If I register my son's birth AFTER I get my ILR, will he still needs MN1 registration or will he automatically be Bristish citizen.

2) For MN1 registration, do they need copy of my BRP or would just a letter from Home Office stating my ILR status suffice as a proof of status.

Appreciate your feedback and time.

Kind Regards,

It makes no difference, he is NOT British regardless of when you register his birth, you can't change his date of birth. You also have to register his birth at the Registry office within a certain time frame, so be aware that you don't leave it to late. You will still have to register him on form MN1, there is no way to avoid this.

Yes, to prove that you have ILR status. The letter you get from HO does not state 'ILR approved'.

Thanks for the reply.

In my previous Tier 1 extensions, I got the letter at the PEO appointment stating the application for Tier 1 extension was approved and I should receive BRP in 7 working days. That lead me to think if my ILR application is successful they will issue me a similar letter which I could use as a proof for my son's registration.
Do they not issue such a letter of ILR applicants?

The letter you get for ILR only states a BRP will be delivered. It does not explicitly state that ILR is approved. BRP takes a couple of days.

:D He was born when you did not have ILR. He is not a British citizen by birth. The date of registering his birth does not matter.

I believe that you must register his birth within 42 days of birth in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and within 21 days of birth in Scotland. That LITUK test is useful for some things after all :)

Hi,

Can the registration for British Citizenship and passport request for the child be done at the same time.
What is the process for this?
Is this recommended or one should apply for these one at a time.

Thanks.

Please keep your questions about the same application in a single topic/thread. It is rude to tag your questions (unrelated) onto other peoples threads.

There is a joint citizenship/passport project called JCAP, search the forum for details or contact the NCS at your council and find out if they offer it.

Thanks for the response.

Point noted about tagging the Question in a different thread.
